Access Control Systems
Can range from a simple keypad to magnetic card readers and proximity devices all the way up to multi-door computer based systems providing total control and monitoring of sensitive areas of your business premises.
Coded or Keypad Entry
Coded or keypad entry is probably the easiest and most cost effective form of Access Control available today. It provides access using a commonly known code, or in more sophisticated systems a personal identification number (PIN) known only to the individual. Card access systems require persons that have access rights to a particular area to carry with them a swipe or proximity card that is ‘offered up’ to a reader head. Swipe cards as the name suggests require the user to swipe the card through the reader head in order to gain access. Some of these swipe systems include numeric keypads for added security.
Proximity Readers
Proximity readers meanwhile require the user only to wave a tag or token in front of a reader. This kind of system is similar in operation to those used in many stores to detect shoplifters. As there are no moving parts or slots that can be tampered with proximity systems offer the perfect solution when protecting external doors. They are virtually impossible to destroy or to vandalise and in most cases the reader is located within the protected premises, resulting in an even greater level of physical protection.
Biometric Systems
Biometric Systems are possibly the most secure method of access control in a high security environment. They work by distinguishing the personal attributes of the individual using the system, using such things as voice recognition, fingerprint scanning and retinal recognition.
PC Based Systems
Like all security systems the key to efficient Access Control is good management. A system which can be programmed centrally through a standard desktop PC offers the best management solution. These systems provide the operator with an overview of the security of the building. All of the above devices and media types can be incorporated in one simple to manage system, allowing the user to print reports on those with access and those who has been into a particular area. Access to particular areas can be restricted by security level or only granted during specific time slots. Should a fire or other emergency arise an override facility can be pre-programmed to unlock all doors automatically thus ensuring the safety of all the occupants.
1. Audio Intercom
Enables ‘gate to house’ communication, ideal for identification of a visitor. Available with either 1 or 2 handsets.
2. Video Intercom
Enables ‘gate to house’ communication with an added visual monitor allowing observation of visitors. Again available with either 1 or 2 handsets.
3. Digital Keypad
Enables access with a four-digit code, re-programmable at any time by the master user. Available either as a stand alone keypad or can be combined with an audio intercom.
4. Magnetic Card Reader
Enables entry using a small magnetic card, perfect for multi-user premises. Comes complete with ten cards.
5. Push Button
Available in either standard open button or lockable open button – for extra security.
6. Cordless Intercom
Has been discontinued
7. External Radio Receiver
Enables a system to be operated by a remote transmitter using a range of approximately 80 metres. Transmitters can be provided in 1, 2 or 3 button versions to enable ease of use when multiple systems are installed.
Installing access control systems in your premises is a way of protecting your business, your property, your personnel and your visitors. By monitoring access in and out of any area or building, this versatile system can ensure complete and thorough control of any site – however big or small. Ranging from simple systems consisting of access control for three or four doors, right up to multi-site high security systems that involve the control of thousands of card readers located over different satellite sites within a company.
Securicom UK will design a system that provides you with an individual solution for your situation – where access control is required.
