Fire Risk Assessments
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 has replaced all previous fire safety legislation. The onus of fire safety for all workplaces has now been placed firmly on the shoulders of the “responsible person” for the premises.
A suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment will include evaluating your current fire detection and warning system, means of escape, internal structural fire protection, provision of appropriate early stage fire fighting equipment, testing and maintenance regimes of equipment and systems and the identification of the training needs of your staff.
The enforcing authority (The Fire and Rescue Service) are responsible for ensuring that all workplaces are meeting their legal obligations by visiting premises to confirm compliance.
An organisation may receive a visit following a complaint, a fire incident or for no reason other than that the enforcing authority may be actively be inspecting premises in that area. Inspections are being carried out across the board, not just large or high risk premises.
