- Points To Check When Choosing the right Installer
If you decide to have an alarm installed to your property, what should be the points to look for? - Always approach a company that has a long history of installing alarm systems. Unfortunately, this is an industry that riddled with “fly by night”, “here today gone tomorrow” companies.
- Be sure that the system will be installed and maintained to the British Standard 4737 or BS 6799 Class VI alarm and conform to the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Intruder Alarm Policy.
- Before disclosing personal security details, check the address and credentials of the company and seen proof of identity from the representative.
- Specify that the installation will be to British Standard 4737 or BS 7042 (high security systems), or, if it is a wire free alarm, BS 6799 Class 6, as amended by BS DD 244.
- Does the company operate a 24 hour call-out service and emergency attendance.
- Beware of companies that offer rental agreements. A rented system may appear to be cheap but will cost far more in the long run and terminating the agreement will result in the company removing it’s equipment, leaving you to find a new system and installer.
- Beware of Maintenance Contracts, many companies will insist that you sign-up to a three or five year contract, this means that you are tied to an installer regardless of the quality of their service.
- Many of the largest companies in the security industry sub-contract a large proportion of their work to smaller companies and individual engineers, ultimately they have little or no control over the quality of work carried out in their name.
